Having recently celebrated their 100th Anniversary of Amalgamation and setting their sights on the historic development of Senakw, the Squamish Nation partnered with us to reimagine how their website could better serve Nation members and reflect the vibrancy of their community. To meet these needs, we worked together to transform the website’s structure from a container of information into a point of connection between Nation members with their government, programs and services, and community.

Across the board, Nation members expressed a desire for their website to highlight and uplift their faces, voices, lands, and knowledge. Additionally, folks emphasized the necessity of intuitive and accessible navigation of member resources to serve people with varying levels of technological literacy. It was crucial that the website proudly tell the story of the people who make up the Squamish Nation and also centre those members’ needs when accessing programs and services behind the login portal.

The resulting website design consists of large, dynamic images of Squamish Nation’s people, culture, and vision framed within spacious editorial layouts that allow their stories to shine. Graphic forms and patterns from the Squamish Nation visual guidelines flourish around images and content blocks, adding visual interest and referencing the cultural artforms of carving and weaving.
